Top 12 of 2017(I couldn't narrow down further)
My first beach shoot of the season. The amazing Anita Petrovski. I managed to drown my phone on this shoot, lucky for me, it came good later in the day. I now own a water proof phone! I love how the waves looks in this, the next photo however is hilarious (as you can imagine), but I'm not allowed to share otherwise Anita would kill me!
This one was certainly interesting. Shooting at 4:30am in the city so we could get away with it. Yes, the police did drive by at one stage, but Dracovinia was covered up by that stage. A perfect morning for it too, just a very light breeze (for blowing clothes/hair) and a nice temperature.
Sunset and the beach... is there anything better? Well, apart from adding an amazing nude model to the shot! Kellie always kills it. Our shoots are amazing. Yes, creepy guys watching, but unfortunately being a public nude beach, there's not much we can do about it.
Down at the nude beach again with more creepy guys watching. But Emmy-Lee is such a trooper and didn't let it phase her at all. I just love the casual walking through the water nature of this shot. All natural light (yes, I did play with the colour toning though).
This one got me banned from Facebook for 24 hours. But I think it was worth it. The lovely Portia in a nice low key booty shot.
Audrey and I did a number of shoots together in a short space of time due to both of us being freer than normal in our everyday lives. This one I just love. It's a genuine smile, not posed for the camera, one of those "in between poses" shots.
Pippa and I have shot together quite a lot this year. We work together really well. This one was just a bit of an idea I had in my head for something very casual & natural light. Kitchens tend to have amazing light.
Back into the studio. Summer McInerney is one of those models that has been around for a while, but we'd moved in different circles, never having worked together or really even looked at each others work before. When she reached out to me, I was totally keen to work with her. This shot in particular, I played with the black levels a bit more than I usually do, and absolutely love the feeling of how this came out.
Raquel Sparrow is one of those models I have been following for years, but had never approached to shoot. For some stupid reason, I was too shy to go and say hi to her. Turns out, it was the same back the other way too. I'm glad we finally worked together. I don't shoot cosplay too often, but when Raquel asked if I wanted to do a Psylocke cosplay, I gave a very enthusiastic YES!
Katarina Sin. What can I say? Such an amazing model, and my second most shot of all time (only with Samii La' Morte coming ahead). This shot we wanted to play with gels to colour the light, and this particular one, I only had one gel and played with the white balance to get the blue. This also was my most liked photo on Instagram this year until it was taken down a couple of days ago.
Nakita Fox and I have been following each other on Instagram for a few years now. I've just been waiting until we've been in the same location together. Her and her awesome partner (Oscar Mike) came to Melbourne in November and we just HAD to work together. Nakita doesn't do much studio work, but had an idea of champagne and oil (the original idea we were going to shoot fell through due to a bad location). With some plastic drop sheets down in the studio we got to work. Managed to keep the mess contained in that also, with only a single drop of baby oil making it onto the background paper.
Maria Jupiter was originally going to pose for the book I put out last year. Alas, timing didn't end up working out so we shot together this year instead.... many times! This was from right before Christmas and we both absolutely love how this one came out.
And with that, we finish my regular shoots. However, if you're into the fetish side of things (which I have another site for - https://fetish.sdphoto.com.au) read on! It's amazing how popular fetish (shibari in particular) has been this year. I see lots of photographers moving into the area.
Top 10 Fetish shots for 2017
What can I say? When I first worked with Charlotte, I knew she was an amazing model, but each shoot we do together I love a bit more. This one I tried something a little different with the harness in that I didn't tie the rope down the middle, just crossed it over and see where it lay.
Samii La' Morte is one of those models that is constantly pushing herself. I wanted something relatively simple for this. So just having her wrists restrained in a nice thick rope section as to hide the bits not normally shown in Samii's photos.
Hog tying models has a major level of trust between the model and the photographer. To be restrained to the level you can't even move (I had to drag Pippa around to position her as needed) is definitely something that dodgy people would take advantage of. It's an honour to be trusted to this level.
POV shots are a new area for me. That interaction between photographer and model takes on a new degree when you're also involved in the shoot itself. Katarina Sin was super keen to shoot this one, tied up on the floor, but appearing to be controlled by the viewer.
I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I absolutely love this shot of Emmy-Lee. Is it the toning? Is it the pose? The light? Not sure, maybe just a bit of everything.
Mia is one of those really quiet models until you get chatting! She had never been fully restrained like this before (her hands are tied behind her back) so a new experience. Always looking forward to our next shoot.
Shot the same night as Mia above, Tyla also had never been fully restrained. More fun times on an extremely warm evening in my studio.
How can we get by without a bit of Christmas fun. Raquel Sparrow is always keen to try something a bit different. A nicely tied Christmas Elf!
